Pensacola Looking For Veteran Leadership

The Pensacola Ice Flyers have been very active this off season. The team has brought in the likes of Nicklas Lindberg, Shaun Arvai, Shawn Skelly, and Drew Baker. The team also offloaded Ryan Raven and agitator Ron Cramer.

I honestly have not witnessed Lindberg’s game, but a quick glance at his stats shows that he is no slouch. The 33 year-old Swede has scored at least 14 goals in each of his nine professional seasons. Last season, Lindberg scored 14 goals for the Bloomington Blaze (Bloomington Thunder) and assisted on 39 more. The former Pensacola Ice Pilot is sure to bring the crowd to their feet in the 2013-2014 season.

Pensacola will not lack in the goals department this season as the team recently made a move to bring Shawn Skelly to Pensacola from Peoria. Skelly played his first professional season (2011-2012) with the Mississippi Surge before being traded to Augusta early last season. He continued to bounce around the ECHL until the end of the season. The right winger from Wolverine Lake, Michigan has lit the lamp 37 times in just two seasons. Skelly may not be the most physical player, but he will certainly dazzle the Floridians with his impressive stick handling.

Pensacola have also made moves to sign veteran defenseman Shaun Arvai and tough defender Drew Baker. The 30 year-old Arvai is coming off of a productive season in Knoxville, racking up 25 points (7 goals/18 assists) and 47 penalty minutes. Baker is coming off of two sensational seasons in Augusta. Baker has scored 16 goals over the past two season (8 each) and tallied 32 assists. The Dawsonville, GA native can also get on the score sheet with his physicality. The six foot, two inch Baker has accumulated 298 penalty minutes in his four professional seasons.
