I’m not exactly sure where I’m headed this weekend, but I should be attending at least two junior hockey games. I had multiple plans for this weekend, which included a single OHL game or a single AHL game, but I opted for multiple games for a lower price. The way it’s looking right now, I should hopefully be in Youngstown on Friday and Saturday for two meetings against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. On Sunday, I may attend the Three Rivers Vengeance vs Michigan Mountain Cats game to cap off the junior hockey weekend.
If you’re reading this, I highly suggest you attend one or both of the Youngstown Phantoms’ games this weekend. Last season, Youngstown pushed around Dubuque with their physical play and won four of the five games they played. This season, Youngstown handed Dubuque their only loss of the season, which was at the USHL Fall Classic in Sioux City. The game featured hard hitting and two fights. Dubuque isn’t known as a rough-and-tumble team, but they beefed up this season to fight back against physical teams such as Youngstown. Their goal-tending and defense has be nothing short of amazing this season as well. They have only let in in total of THREE goals in three games. They will need to be on their game as the top two scorers in the entire USHL are on Youngstown. Austin Cangelosi and J.T. Stenglein are both coming off of hat trick’s, with Stenglein tallying four goals last Friday against Waterloo.
As I mentioned above, get out to the Covelli Centre to see one of the games this weekend. I expect both to be hard hitting, physical hockey games. This will also show if Youngstown really is the contender they seem to be two weeks into the season. If you can’t make it, leave a comment on where you will be going to watch hockey!
